Why we refuse standard sizes.

On the philosophy that begins every Indoorra kitchen — and why a box that fits everyone fits no one.

A kitchen is not a product. It is a room that has to hold the way a family moves through a morning, the way a conversation settles at the end of a day, and the way light falls across a counter in February. Standard sizes were invented for efficiency, not for people.

So we begin every project the same way: with the space, and with the question of how it is actually used. There is no catalogue. There is no box that almost fits. Every cabinet is drawn to the millimetre of the room it will live in.

A box that fits everyone fits no one. We would rather draw the room than fill it.

The cost of the standard

The standard cabinet exists because it is cheap to make, not because it is good to use. Fillers, scribes, and awkward corners are the symptoms of a kitchen designed for a warehouse, not a home. We remove them by designing for the room that exists.

What custom means here

Custom is not a price tier. It is a method. It means the veneer is chosen for the wall it will face, the drawers are sized for what they will hold, and the joinery is specified to be opened ten thousand times. It is slower. It is better.

Begin with your space.
